'Hogarth Meets Manga' Summer School
Leytonstone School, Connaught School and Lammas School Monday 27 July 2009
In July 2009, pupils from three schools in Waltham Forest took part in a week-long summer school. Pupils visited Sir John Soane's Museum to see the famous 'A Rake's Progress' by William Hogarth. This series of eight paintings (displayed on the main Soane website) was created in 1733 as a humorous warning to people about how not to live their lives. Pupils were challenged to update the story from the paintings and to re-create it in a Manga style. Using the paintings as inspiration, the pupils worked together to establish their modernised version. They then worked with Ilya, a Manga Artist based in London, to learn more about Manga and to develop their designs.
